The Ashes test matches would have been the first opportunity for thousands of cricket fans to experience the newly designed OCS Stand at the Brit Oval.
Concept designed by HOK sport architecture and construction designed by Miller Partnership, the Brit Oval has been transformed into a 23,000 seat venue for the Surrey County Cricket Club (SCCC).
Paul Sheldon, SCCC Chief Executive, has expressed his delight with the redevelopment, saying: "All of us are thrilled with the new OCS Stand and its iconic structure, providing a fitting venue for the most important test match that most of us can remember."
John Barrow, Senior Principal, HOK sport architecture, described the design of the stand and its roof as "truly iconic, elegantly harmonizing with the imposing Victorian appearance of the Pavilion".
The sweeping form of the new roof has also been created to act as a foil to the gasometers which have historically formed the backdrop at that end of the ground.
Elsewhere, a 'Living Wall' has been introduced, which will support a variety of climbing plants. The tapering timber louvre screen will also help to restrict overlooking from the stand of the adjacent residential accommodation and help to dissipate the traffic noise from the main road.
