London’s Korn/Ferry Opera Holland Park has undergone a radical upgrade with the installation of a new, larger canopy and a new grandstand.

The seating system was designed and manufactured by Alto Seating Systems and unveiled for the 2007 season. This opened on June 5th and ran through to August 10th with a programme of operas from Verdi, Rossini, Janácek and Montemezzi.

Created has been a bespoke seating solution for an audience of one thousand people, a 20 per cent increase in capacity. The grandstand has the look and feel of a permanent structure yet is totally demountable.

It features new luxury seats with individual armrests, high backs and deep, comfortable upholstery as well as an additional six inches of legroom.

Sight lines have been improved for the whole audience by maintaining a shallow rise for the front half of the stand whilst the back half has been configured with a steeper and higher rise height.

Audience access has also been improved through the inclusion of five entrances to the stand, including a large vomitory that emerges from underneath the stand onto a central walkway.

For wheelchair users and their carers, a specially designed front row area has been included for easier access and greater comfort.

Also accommodated as part of the structure are two bars and a mezzanine floor that integrates with the back of the seating structure to almost double available foyer space.
