Global cosmetics and beauty conglomerate L’Oréal Group has parted ways with spa and beauty brand Decléor.

Decléor’s partners received notice last week that the French aromatherapy company will withdraw from all spas and salons, with production no longer in service.

Speaking to Spa Business, a L’Oréal spokesperson stated:

“L’Oréal has a portfolio of complementary brands. The Group’s strategy is to acquire and, sometimes, exit brands, to keep a very strong portfolio and the complementarity it needs to thrive over the long-term.

“The success of L'Oréal Dermatological Beauty is based on a strategy and a business model focused on brands prescribed by healthcare professionals. Under these conditions, the Division has decided to stop the commercialisation of Decléor.”

Decléor was acquired from Shiseido by L’Oréal in 2014 as part of a €227.5 million (US$241.5 million, £196.5 million) deal which also included the acquisition of French haircare brand, Carita.

The company has been a household name in the industry since its inception almost 50 years ago in Paris and was previously partnered with established spa brands including Centre Parcs’ Aqua Sana as well as hotel spas operated by Regent Hotels.

DECLÉOR was the very first skincare company to use aromatherapy.

Their story began 40 years ago in Paris, with two visionary and innovative women, one a beauty therapist and the other a renowned aromatherapist. Long before the benefits of aromatherapy had been internationally recognised and the boom in botanical skincare had taken off around the globe, these two pioneers used their combined expertise to develop ground-breaking treatments that featured potent, pure, plant-based products, known as AROMESSENCE™.

While the DECLÉOR range of products has grown over the years, these highly effective AROMESSENCE™ Serums and Balms are still at the heart of the brand’s beauty regime, producing the same exceptional results that they have always done. The brand’s philosophy remains committed to a unique holistic approach to beauty and wellbeing, working to constantly stay one step ahead in aromatherapy, using the latest science and research to source and blend remarkable ingredients and devise the most innovative results driven treatments.
